Live Eat And Play ™ Program

A hands-on activity that enables students to understand the important balance between the food they eat and the activities they undertake during the day.

Description: This program for schools lets children have fun while learning how to easily understand the importance of balancing their diet with a healthy lifestyle. Students learn the benefits of a balanced lifestyle by visually creating their energy expenditure and energy intake relationship and recognising the energy values of various foods and activities. The Live Eat And Play program meets the curriculum outcomes of PDHPE – S2 & S3, Strands: Personal Health Choices and Active Lifestyle.

(Outcomes S3: PHS3.12, ALS3.6, DMS3.2 and V5. Outcomes S2: PHS2.12, ALS2.6, DMS2.2 and V5. NSW Department of Education and Training ).

Outline: A 15 minute talk to illustrate the relationship between the food children eat and their daily activities. Steps are shown how the important balance is changed when different foods are consumed and when different activities are undertaken. The presenter then runs a 30 - 35 minute class activity session during which students create a "food - activity" relationship.

NOTE: The school or club is provided with class activity sheets and teachers notes. The program can be continued in class for a period of seven days. This allows students to build a profile of their weekly eating and playing habits.

Duration: Presentation 50 minutes. Additional worksheets are available and can be completed by students during the week after the presentation.
